Chapter 09 / 12

Domains

Every published site is online immediately at a Deribfy address. A custom domain is an additional, optional step, available once the site is published. Two paths exist: buy a domain through Deribfy, or connect a domain you already own.

Scope: all site types.

Questions this page answers: Can I buy a domain through Deribfy? Can I use my own domain? Does Deribfy configure DNS? Is my site served over HTTPS? How long does setting up a domain take? Can I change domain? Can I detach my domain? What happens to my domain if I archive my site?

Buy a domain through Deribfy

  1. 1.You search for the name you want.
  2. 2.Deribfy checks its availability and shows its price.
  3. 3.You reserve it. Payment is an annual subscription.
  4. 4.Deribfy handles everything: registering the domain, configuring DNS, connecting it to your site, and the verification steps with Google.

There is nothing for you to configure.

Some domain extensions cannot be registered automatically. Deribfy tells you before any payment.

Connect your own domain

If you already own a domain, connect it. You keep it with your current provider: Deribfy needs no access to your account.

Deribfy shows you the two DNS records to add — one for the root address, one for the `www` address — with their exact values. If your domain requires an extra ownership check, the matching record is shown too.

You add those records at your domain provider.

Verification and propagation

Connection status is displayed: pending, being configured, verified, or a problem. A Check now button requests an immediate re-check, so you are never left without an answer.

DNS changes take from a few minutes to a few hours to propagate, depending on your provider.

HTTPS

Your custom domain is served over HTTPS. The certificate is issued automatically by the hosting infrastructure once DNS has propagated and the domain is verified; this step can take from a few minutes to a few hours.

Both the root address and the `www` address work: whichever you did not set as your main address redirects to the other, keeping the page and its parameters.

Managing a domain afterwards

  • Change domain — connect a different one at any time.
  • Detach — removes the link between a domain and a site. The site stays online at its Deribfy address. Detaching never cancels a domain.
  • Stop renewal (purchased domains) — the domain stays active until its expiry date; it is not deleted. You can restore renewal before it expires.
  • Archive a site — detaches its domain but cancels nothing. A purchased domain keeps its own renewal cycle, and Deribfy tells you so at the time.

Ownership of a purchased domain

A domain bought through Deribfy is registered by Deribfy with its registration partner. Deribfy commits to transferring control to you on request, within applicable rules and the timeframes imposed by the relevant bodies, and keeps no rights over the domain beyond the service period.

Limits

  • A custom domain is only available once the site is published.
  • DNS propagation and certificate issuance times depend on your domain provider.
  • Some extensions cannot be registered automatically.
  • An already expired domain cannot be recovered.
